8th Grade Field Trip to VT

8th Grade Field Trip to VT

All 8th graders will have the opportunity to participate in a field trip to tour the campus of Virginia Tech. 

The campus of VT is hosting our student body for a campus information session and tour.  We will be eating lunch on campus in one of the student dining facilities.

We will be taking school buses for this trip.  Students may bring their cellphones and headphones for this trip.  Students may not bring Chromebooks or laptops.  Water bottles and snacks will be permitted on the bus but may not be brought on the tour. 

*  Students should wear comfortable shoes and a jacket for our time on campus.

*  Students will not be permitted to carry a backpack or other bag on campus.

*  Students MUST be dropped off in the car rider line NO LATER THAN 7:50 AM.

    Students will report directly to their English teacher's room.  Buses will depart at 8:15AM.

*  Students should be picked up promptly at 5:00 in the car rider line.

FFA Quizbowl Practice

FFA Quizbowl Practice

The FFA will be attending the Washington County Federation FFA Quizbowl Contest on November 9, 2017 at Wallace Middle School.  Students must come to at least 2 practices to be prepared for the contest.  Practices will be on October 19, 24, 26 and November 2, after school until 4:30pm.  Alternative times can be arranged for those students that have after school activities.  Students should come to the agriscience room at the dismissal bell at the end of school on November 9.  FFA members will ride over to WMS for the contest which starts at 4:00PM.  Please have your rides pick you up at E.B. Stanley Middle School at 5:30PM.  Students should wear an FFA t-shirt or hoodie as well as other school appropriate clothing.  There is no cost for the contest.  If there are any questions, please email Mrs. Shortt at rshortt@wcs.k12.va.us.  The permission slip is due to Mrs. Shortt by November 2, 2017.

EBSMS is participating in Operation Christmas Child.  We will be putting together shoeboxes filled with gifts to send around the world to children in great need.  There are several ways that families and students can help.

-Donate small articles for children to go inside the boxes

-----Small, new toys such as yo-yos, jump ropes, dolls, cars

-----Coloring books, crayons, stickers, paper

-----Washcloths, socks, hats, gloves

-Donate boxes already filled with gifts (marked for gender and age)

-----Girl/Boy (ages 2-4, 5-9, 10-14)

-Give money to assist in shipping our boxes

-----Each box will cost $9 to send

 

We cannot send food, liquids, candies, or toothpaste.

Veterans Day Program

Veterans Day Program

On Friday, we will have our Annual Veterans Day program.  We invite all veterans and members of the armed forces to attend.  We will have a Processional of Veterans at 8:55 a.m. and the program will begin at 9:00 a.m.  Brunch will follow at 10:00 a.m.  This year our guest speaker will be Delegate Todd E. Pillion.  Additionally, our EBSMS Chorus and EBSMS Band will perform.

7th Grade Field Trip to Radford University

The E.B. Stanley Middle School 7th grade class is planning a field trip to Radford University on Nov. 15.  We will be given information about the university and programs that they offer as well as taking a campus tour. 

We will be departing from E.B. Stanley promptly at 8:15 am and return by 3:00 pm. 

A few things that your student will need:

  • We will be doing a considerable amount of walking during the visit, so students should wear comfortable shoes.
  • Dress in appropriate layers for the weather.
  • Rain gear in case of wet weather.

A packed lunch to be eaten at the University.

PTA Spirit Night at Pizza Inn - Last Day of Ticket Sales

The PTA is hosting a Spirit Night at Pizza Inn on Wednesday, November 29th.  Students are encouraged to participate by buying a ticket for only $10 which can be used on both Dine In and Take-Out from 5:00 to 8:00 that night.  Half of the ticket sales and all tips collected that night will go directly to PTA.   

 

Students should bring in their money for tickets to either Mrs. Dixon in the 6th grade, Mr. Abel in the 7th grade or Mr. Singleton in the 8th grade.  Last day to order a ticket is Monday, November 27th.  Tickets will be given to students on Monday, November 27th at the end of the school day.

The girls' and boys' basketball teams will travel to Northwood Middle.  The girls will play first at 5:00 p.m.  The boys will play at 6:00 p.m.

All sixth grade band students should remain after school on Thursday, November 30th for a combined rehearsal.  Parents should pick up students at the bus end of the building at 4:30 p.m.
