These new requirements are as follows:

● Two properly spaced doses of hepatitis A vaccine (HAV). The first dose shall be administered at age 12 months or older.

● Two properly spaced doses of meningococcal conjugate vaccine (MenACWY). The first dose shall be administered prior to entry to the seventh grade. The second dose shall be administered prior to entry to the twelfth grade.

The Virginia Childhood Vaccination Schedule can be found here.

What does this mean for Washington County Public school students?
  1. Upcoming 7th graders will be required to have a Tdap as well as a meningococcal conjugate vaccine prior to entry for the 2021-2022 school year.
  2. Upcoming 12th graders will be required to have a meningococcal conjugate vaccine prior to entry for the 2021-2022 school year.
  3. Upcoming kindergarten students will be required to have 2 doses of Hepatitis A prior to entry for the 2021-2022 school year.

If your child will be entering Kindergarten, 7th or 12th grade, please begin making arrangements with your physician or Washington County Health Department 276-676-5604 to schedule appointments for those vaccinations. Once completed, please send a copy of the immunization record to your child's school; this must be completed prior to attendance next school year.  Attached are FAQ sheets that provide answers to common questions. In addition,  your school nurse is available to answer questions regarding immunizations if you need additional guidance.
