Medication at School

Medication Reminder for Parents & Guardians

To keep students safe, Washington County Public Schools (WCPS) follows strict medication guidelines.


Prescription Medications

  • Must have written orders from a physician, PA, or NP

  • Written parent/guardian permission required

  • Parents are responsible for monitoring supply and resupplying when notified


Over-the-Counter Medications

  • Require written parent/guardian permission

  • Must be provided by the parent

  • School clinics do not keep stock medications

  • ONLY FDA-approved medications are allowed


Essential Oils

🚫 Not permitted at school

  • Not FDA-approved

  • May not be brought to school or administered

  • Per WCPS policy


Aspirin

🚫 Not administered

  • Due to the risk of Reye’s syndrome


Medication Requirements

  • Medications must be in their original container

  • Items sent in bags or other containers will not be accepted

  • Antibiotics should be given at home, unless ordered for 4x daily dosing
